THINGS TO DO WHEN NOT GOLFING…
The Palace of the Governors
The Palace of the Governors is located on the Santa Fe Plaza and is an anchor for the New Mexico History Museum. Built by the Spanish as a government building in 1610, the Palace of the Governors remains the country's oldest continuously occupied public building. Here, visitors can enjoy interpretive galleries, the Palace Press, and a large courtyard that leads to the New Mexico History Museum campus.
The Palace is also known for the block-long portal along the north side of the Santa Fe Plaza where Native American artists sell their handmade jewelry and other works daily from 8:30 - 5 pm.
New Mexico History Museum
New Mexico History Museum invites visitors to experience the rich history of the state. The museum exists as a statewide educational resource, local landmark, and destination for anyone seeking to understand the diverse experiences of the people of New Mexico. The museum includes the famed Palace of the Governors and the Palace Press, the Fray Angélico Chávez History Library, and the Pete V. Domenici Building. Through its permanent and rotating exhibitions, the museum invites visitors to immerse themselves in history.
Loretto Chapel
This glorious Gothic-Revival style chapel was completed in 1878 and modeled after King Louis IX's Sainte Chapelle in Paris. The church was built for the Sisters of the Loretto, who established a school in Santa Fe in 1853. According to legend, St. Joseph the Carpenter had a role in the building of the chapel's Miraculous Staircase, constructed between 1877 and 1881 with two 360-degree turns and no apparent means of support. Today, the church is a private museum and a popular site for wedding ceremonies.
New Mexico State Capitol Building
The New Mexico State Capitol (a.k.a. the Roundhouse), located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the seat of government of the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is unique as the only round state capitol in the United States. The building was designed to resemble the Zia Sun Symbol when viewed from above, with four entrance wings that protrude from the main cylindrical volume. Architecturally, the Capitol is a blend of New Mexico territorial style and neoclassical influences. Above each entrance is a stone carving of the State Seal of New Mexico. The building has four levels, one of which is below ground. Dedicated on December 8, 1966, the building was designed by W.C. Kruger and constructed by Robert E. McKee.
Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi
The crowning achievement of Archbishop Lamy's church construction in New Mexico, the Saint Francis Cathedral was built between 1869 and 1886 and designed in the French Romanesque Revival style. Although its design contrasts the surrounding adobe buildings, the cathedral remains one of Santa Fe's most celebrated landmarks
Georgia O'Keeffe Museum
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is located in downtown Santa Fe within easy walking distance of the historic Plaza. The Museum collection is the single largest repository of O'Keeffe's work in the world.
New Mexico Museum of Art
New Mexico Museum of Art believes art is for everyone. Located just off the iconic Santa Fe Plaza, the museum fosters a deeper understanding and enjoyment of art throughout the state and beyond. The museum features an impressive permanent collection of Southwestern artists, including major pieces by Georgia O'Keeffe and Gustave Baumann. New exhibitions are always being mounted that highlight the work of contemporary and emerging artists of all kinds. The Museum also includes New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary in the Railyard which is dedicated to exhibitions and programs supporting the advancement of contemporary and emerging artists and their work.

Santa Fe is a colorful, artistic city, bursting with a rich history and four nearby golf courses that make this trip hotter than a New Mexican Chili Pepper! Santa Fe’s clear blue skies, ideal natural light, expansive landscapes, and ease of living have long drawn artists and others seeking a creative community for years. Justly famous for its arts scene, the city has no fewer than 20 museums, 300 galleries, and a destination-worthy opera house. Santa Fe is also a city rich in Native American and Hispanic culture, which influences every corner of the city. It was settled by the Spanish more than 400 years ago, and before that, indigenous people built still-existing pueblos and farmed the land. Culture practically oozes out of Santa Fe, and while it might not be at the top of your golf bucket list, this city is worth your time and attention. For all the creatives and history fans, Santa Fe is a city you'll be captivated by and is worth a trip. Plus, we get to play the number one private golf club in New Mexico!

We'll stay at the 3.5 star Drury Plaza Santa Fe Hotel. Back in 2012 the Drury Hotel Company purchased a five acre plot that sat behind the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis. This property was the original St. Vincent Hospital and adjacent Marian Hall, which was run by the Sisters of Charity. The folks at the Drury turned what had become a rundown five-acre eyesore into a swanky venue with 182 high-ceilinged rooms, a year-round rooftop bar and swimming pool, a loft-style fitness center, landscaped courtyards, and meeting space and a restaurant. Overall, the Drury Plaza offers value-added amenities and a downtown location near the Plaza. A hot buffet breakfast and an evening reception with cocktails and snacks is included daily.
Our guests will stay in Deluxe King Rooms that feature one king bed with an additional seating area, and each area has its own TV. The bathroom offers a soaking tub and a spacious walk-in shower. In-room amenities include Wi-Fi, a microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and in-room safe.

The Club at Las Campanas Sunrise Course
Black Mesa Golf Course:
Dramatic vistas of the sprawling valley climbing to distant mountains serve as an inspiring backdrop at Black Mesa Golf Club. Fairways, framed by arroyos, hug the natural ridgelines and valleys of sandstone foothills like lava leading to undulating greens in box canyons and beneath rocky ridges. Every hole shaped by the surrounding landscape like an artist forming a delicate piece of pottery. Rejuvenate your senses amidst the artistry of nature at Black Mesa.
Head pro Tom Velarde calls the demanding par-five 16th “stairway to seven.” There are many ways to make that number and more if you are not careful. It is a dramatic hole that looks as if it were a glacier of green snow permanently fixed among the sandstone formations. It is long and, when played in the left-to-right crosswind, very difficult. The tee shot from the elevated back tee demands a well struck drive to a steeply inclined fairway. Once on the green, two putts are certainly not guaranteed. The surface has huge undulations and it falls off severely to the back. The course is under new management and is better than it's ever been. Black Mesa may well be the premier course in entire state of NM!
Sandia Golf Course
Opened in 2005, this Scott Miller designed Championship course was developed by the Pueblo of Sandia as part of the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Par 72 Championship Course stretches from 5,113 to 7,752 yards and will challenge and delight golfers of all skill levels with a memorable layout routed through the rugged high desert landscape featuring 48 strategically placed bunkers, challenging green complexes and panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains and greater Albuquerque area. The facility also features a full size practice range with a double-tiered teeing area, a 10,000 square foot practice putting green, a practice chipping green with bunker, and a putting green next to the number 1 tee to practice those last few putts before teeing off.
Golf Digest has rated Sandia Golf Course at 4.5 Stars and Golf Week has rated it as a Top 100 Best Resort Courses in the US and Best You Can Play in NM.
The Club at Las Campanas - Sunrise Course
The Lyle Anderson Company, the same firm that developed Desert Highlands, Desert Mountain, and Superstition Mountain, hired Jack Nicklaus to create 36 holes of Signature golf. The Sunrise Golf Course, which opened in 1993, is Jack Nicklaus' 100th career design and is consistently ranked in the top 5 of New Mexico Courses.
The course features five tee boxes at each hole to allow playability for a wide variety of golfers. Elevated tees permit inspiring views of the surrounding mountains and ever-changing sky. The golf course design at Las Campanas is a significant departure from the concepts Jack has employed in the past. A new, gentler approach is coupled to his sensitivity for preserving the character of the land.
Sitting at an elevation of nearly 7,000 feet, the views at Las Campanas are spectacular, with snow-capped mountains, pinon pines, juniper trees and gently rolling hills. And from spring through fall, fields of yellow, blue and purple wildflowers carpet the landscape.
The Club at Las Campanas - Sunset Course
The Sunset Course opened in 2000 and has been one of the top three rated courses in New Mexico ever since. In fact this private country club is one of the most difficult places in the the southwest to get a tee time if you are not a member or playing with a member.
The course hosted "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf" some years ago with the course designer, Jack Nicklaus competing again Ben Crenshaw. Guess who won...
The Sunset Course offers more elevation changes than the Sunrise Course and it can be a bit more challenging. However, generous fairways and immaculate conditions help ease the pain. A round at either of the courses at Las Campanas is a highlight for any golfer visiting New Mexico. Our group will get to play both courses which will make this a trip to remember!
