The Dunes Course

The first signature-designed golf course in Greece. Open since May 2010, the impressive seaside Dunes Course is the first signature golf course in Greece, designed by two-time US Masters Champion and former Ryder Cup Captain Bernhard Langer in association with European Golf Design. This championship course, set in a diverse natural landscape beside The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort and The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, offers spectacular sea and river views and incorporates some links-style features in areas closest to the sea. Parts of the course venture into olive and fruit groves, while some holes run along a small river – the Sellas – which meanders through the site. Combined with large undulating greens, wide fairways and steep-faced pot bunkers, the links element of the course adds to its unique style and playability.

Our SFGA members love to travel and play golf. We are frequently asked about new destinations and when we mention that we've been working on a golf trip to Greece, member's eyes light up! This summer, in between escorting groups to Scotland and Ireland, Bob visited Greece and inspected the premier golf destination in the Mediterranean, Costa Navarino. He returned from Europe raving about Costa Navarino and we've been developing this new itinerary ever since!

Costa Navarino is located in Messinia on Greece's southwest coast, about 3.5 hours drive from Athens and boasts one of the most unspoiled and breathtaking landscapes in the Mediterranean. Costa Navarino has been created to provide luxury travelers with high-end holidays and put Greece on the world golf map as a top destination. The Bay Course

The Bay Course at Navarino Bay, designed by Robert Trent Jones II, provides both a fun experience and a challenging test for golfers of all levels. Just a few minutes from Navarino Dunes, at the Navarino Bay development, the Bay Course offers an alternative set of challenges and choices in a quite different setting. With the majority of tees offering spectacular coastal and sea views and two holes playing along the historic Bay of Navarino, the course plays a little shorter than The Dunes Course at 5,614 meters from the back tees and meanders through three distinct natural landscapes. The Seaside, Canyon, and Grove holes provide striking contrasts that create a dramatic and memorable golf round. This is considered the number one course in Greece and one of the absolute best in Continental Europe, that is why we have planned to play it two times during our stay!

José María Olazábal was hired to design the Hills Course and the International Olympic Academy Golf course. José María Olazábal ranks among the greatest European golfers of all time with two Masters victories (1994, 1999), 33 titles around the world and legendary performances in the Ryder Cup both as a player and a captain. The past few years he's spent more time with course design and architecture and started a company called, Olazabal Design.

The two new 18-hole courses are set high above the coastline offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the Ionian Sea and opened for play by 2022. Mr. Olazábal helped make 2022 a banner year for Costa Navarino as a golf destination, their course portfolio jumped from two signature golf courses to four. The Hills Course overlooks the rural landscape of Messinia with rugged mountains and small villages. Measuring 6,280 yards, this 18-hole course par 72 completes the challenging experience designed to challenge the most experienced golfers in a different landscape setting.

The International Olympic Academy Golf Course

The Olympic Course is longer than the Hills Course and has been designed as the more challenging of the two Olazábal designs. The plan is to host international competitions and has already hosted the Aegean Airlines Pro-Am, an international 36-hole game endorsed by the PGAs of Europe which for the past 11 years has attracted players from all over the world. The front nine circles the southern portion of Navarino Hills on softly-undulated terrain and leads through old olive groves in a typical Greek landscape. The back nine then plays along the Navarino Hills which provide spectacular coastal and sea views across to the Bay of Navarino.
