Golf Course Information:

Bay Point Golf Club

The Bay Point Golf Club will be our site for (3) rounds of competition on this trip.  Nestled in a 1,100 nature preserve, they offer a full service golf experience to guests of all skill levels and interests.  This (36) hole club allows for more variety all within the convenience of a single clubhouse and the onsite restaurant “Club 19”.

Nicklaus Golf Course

Opened in 2005, the region’s only Nicklaus designed lay-out winds though the salt water marshes, scrub oaks and pines of the coastal location.  The signature 5th hole calls for a spectacular shot to an island fairway and a 2nd shot to a peninsula green which overlooks the St. Andrews Bay.  The 17th hole features a “fish bowl” designed green that is recessed below the surrounding terrain creating an illusion to the golfer.  The Nicklaus design company is credited with creating a variety of fairways with plateaus and changes in elevation that are uncharacteristic of the region.

Meadows Golf Course

The classic, old Florida lay out of the Meadows Course is the epitome of country club golf.  The layout weaves through the mature wooded areas, and lakes of the community.  This William Byrd design, was first opened in 1973, and was renovated in 2004. The strategically placed bunkers and water features provide a test to players of all abilities.  A pleasant blend of doglegs, narrow fairways, and views of St. Andrews Bay combine to make The Meadows course a pure country club style that members and guests enjoy playing time and time again.

Area Restaurants:

The Sun and Fun Golf Association has never held an event in the Florida Panhandle, but when the people at the newly remodeled Bay Point Sheraton encouraged us to consider their resort for our March event we thought it would be a great venue.

For years, Bay Point has been a relaxing destination for couples, families and conferences, providing memorable recreation opportunities as well as beautiful views of St. Andrews Bay.  With over $30 million in renovations and a AAA Four Diamond rating, the re-envisioned Sheraton Bay Point Resort brings experiences that last a lifetime to the next generation of visitors.  The full-service resort features luxurious accommodations, reinvented restaurants, and updated meeting spaces as well as favorites such as the on-site Serenity Spa and 36 holes of championship golf, including the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida.

The experience continues with three beach options, including their private bay beach, a shuttle boat to the pristine Shell Island with access to the Gulf, as well as close proximity to the world famous Panama City Beaches. Additional excursions include on-site water sport rentals, bayside pools, full-service tennis facility, and a 24-hour fitness center.

There are (3) restaurants within the Sheraton Bay Point Resort offering a variety of choices to guests.

Tides – Casual dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Sheraton Bay Point resort can be found in Tides Restaurant and Lounge in the hotel lower level.  Enjoy the 180 degree views of St. Andrews Bay as you fuel up each morning with a full all American Breakfast Buffet beginning at 6:30AM.  Later, stop by for lunch or dinner and choose from the raw bar offerings or classic steaks.  A signature “Setting Sun Mojito” or crafted cocktail may be the compliment to the evening sunset. Dinner served from 5-8pm with Bar and Lounge open until 11PM.

Pelican’s – The resort boardwalk leads you over the water to the relaxing atmosphere of this open-air beach bar.   Mingle with locals and visitors over a frosty margarita or cold beer.  Enjoy handheld burgers, sandwiches, wings or dips while listening to live music before the evening sunset over the bay.

Flip Flop’s Pool Bar – Beginning at 11AM daily, shoes and shirts are not required at this poolside spot overlooking the St. Andrews Bay.  Sandwiches, salads, flatbreads and snacks served until 8PM make certain that you won’t miss a single ray of sunshine.  Wines, beers and full bar amenities keep the party going in the most casual of settings. Don’t forget your bathing suit.

Event Details:

The dining options in this area are known for having the freshest seafood available.  Many restaurants are within or near marinas where the fresh catch is unloaded from fishing boats.  Also, southern style barbecue is popular in the region.  We are in the south after all.  Here are some suggestions within a reasonable drive of the resort.

Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant and Waterfront Market – A short 3.5 mile drive from the resort will bring you to this landmark establishment and recipient of Southern Living’s “Best Seafood Restaurant” award that opened in 1967. Patrons arrive early for dinner to watch the fishing fleets unload their catch on the nearby docks. Open at 4:30PM Mon.-Sat. Phone: (850) 234-2225.  Address: 5551 N Lagoon Dr, Panama City, FL 32408

Grand Marlin Restaurant and Oyster Bar – Located at the Lighthouse Marina on Grand Lagoon, The Grand Marlin is a relatively new comer to the area.  After enjoying great success at their Pensacola Beach location since 2010, a second location was born at the Lighthouse Marina.  With evening sunsets over the Grand Lagoon, diners enjoy fresh local seafood, oysters shucked to order, steaks and an 80 plus bottle wine list.  The 2nd floor features the Caribbean style “North Drop Bar” where guests may try the locally famous “Blue Marlin Martini” or “Ginger Rum Cooler”.  On the water, with a view and only 3.7 miles from the resort, The Grand Marlin awaits.
Phone: (850)-249-1500 Address: 5323 N Lagoon Dr, Panama City, FL 32408

Hammerhead Fred’s – Since 1995 this casual, seafood establishment has been popular with locals and visitors alike.  Fresh Apalachicola oysters, tuna, gulf shrimp or sizzling steaks are just a few of the large variety found on the lunch and dinner menus.  With seating indoors, or on the outdoor pavilion, “Fred’s Hangout”, guests can choose between the rustic backdrop of old Florida inside, or the live music, and giant screen TV on the deck.  This restaurant is 6.3 miles from the resort.
Phone: (850) 233-3907 Address: 8752 Thomas Dr, Panama City Beach, FL 32408

Pineapple Willy’s – Claiming to have the best ribs on the beach, Pineapple Willy’s has remained a favorite since opening in 1984.  “On the Beach” can be the only way to describe the location where guests can sit in or out in a casual   can stroll down the wooden staircase from the pier dining area directly onto the beach sand and beautiful Gulf of Mexico.   The location is 7.1 miles from the resort at 9875 S Thomas Dr, Panama City Beach, FL 32408.  Phone (850)-238-0928

Saltwater Grill – Choose your own Maine Lobster from the live lobster tank or pair it with an award winning steak.    Sip on a martini at the Mermaid Piano Bar while listening to 10 year veteran Michael Rorah.  Southern Living magazine lists Saltwater Grill as one of the “5 Best Reasons to Visit PCB”.  Saltwater Grill is 7.6 miles from the resort.

“The World’s Most Beautiful Beaches” is the slogan of Panama City Beach, Florida.  It seems many others agree as this destination has found itself on many top ten lists of best beaches.  The sparkling white sands of this region are a result of millions of years of quartz crystals washing down from the Appalachians to the Gulf of Mexico.  The Sheraton Bay Point has a private beach of its own as well as views of Shell Island, a pristine undeveloped barrier island accessible only by boat and part of St. Andrews State Park.  We’ll stay in beautifully decorated guestrooms with mini fridge, free WiFi, and king sized beds at the Sheraton Bay Point Resort.

Surrounded by the emerald green waters and sugar-white sands of St. Andrews Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida, the Sheraton Bay Point Resort awaits. Situated on a 1,100 acre wildlife sanctuary, this newly renovated property boasts (36)holes of championship golf.  A 30 million dollar renovation at Sheraton Bay Point Resort was recently completed in November of 2016.  The reviews are glowing and this laid back destination is on the radar screen of many travelers in the know.
