Waynesville Country Club & Resort
Waynesville, North Carolina

The best Waynesville Inn & Country Club trip ever!

We had participants from Texas, Tennessee, New York, Georgia and Florida who all made it out for this event showing how geologically diverse our membership is. From all the feedback we have received everyone who attended agreed it was a wonderful trip. The S.F.G.A. has been to Waynesville many times, but what made this trip the best, Waynesville have really tried to improve their service and overall quality. The accommodations at Waynesville are a bit more rustic than just about all the other resorts S.F.G.A. visits, however the service, food and quaintness makes you feel that you’re at home in this mountain retreat.

The main reason we visit Waynesville in August every year is because the weather. While most of the country is sweating it out with 100° heat index’s, Waynesville is nestled amongst the great Smokey Mountains which offers them the advantage of a perfect 78° afternoon every day. This year our menu featured filet minion, lobster tail, jumbo shrimp and many other upgrades that had never been available in the past.

The golf, as always, was loads of fun. We features four separate 18 hole tournaments over the course of the week we were at Waynesville. On the first day we played the Carolina/Dogwood courses and the team of Dave Usilton, Paul Poirier, Ken Bradley and Dick Ambrose shot a 58 to win the “one best ball of four” format. The next day everyone played the Dogwood/Blue Ridge courses with a format of “two best balls of four” and the winning team consisted of Susan Huguley, Joy Pamplin, Dick Ambrose and Scott Doane and they shot a 118. Our third tournament day took place on the Blue Ridge/Carolina courses and the format featured a “shamble/two best balls of 4” format and the team of Tootie Whaley, Betty Usilton, Bob Mitchell and Ken Bradley ran away with the winning score shooting an incredible 99. Our final tournament took place back on the Carolina/Dogwood courses and the team of Betsy Poirier, Joy Pamplin, Ken Bradley and Dick Ambrose shot a 120 and won by 2 shots in a tightly contested match.

Congratulations to everyone who played and thanks to the Waynesville staff and the SFGA participants for making this event one to remember for a long time.
