The Villas of Grand Cypress
Orlando, Florida

Our May event at the Villas of Grand Cypress was fantastic! We experienced outstanding golf, luxurious suites, delicious meals and first class service. It’s easy to see why the Villas of Grand Cypress is consistently ranked among the top golf resorts in the world.  The weather cooperated beautifully, although it was hot and rain was forecast for both our tournament days, the golf gods were smiling on us and kept rain to the north of our resort.  We did experience some cloud cover, but that was welcomed as it helped cool things down a bit.

The golf at Grand Cypress is as good as it gets with 45 holes designed by the “Golden Bear.” Jack Nicklaus created “New Course” at Grand Cypress as a special tribute to the “Old Course at St. Andrews”. This is a wonderful links style layout that our members will be remember for a long time because of the many “pot bunkers”, some of which were twelve feet deep, the open fairways and the tricky greens. We played a practice round on it the day we arrived and then played our first 18 hole event on it the following day. The format was “One Better Ball of Two” with Ladies and Men competing separately. Lydia Nelson and Pat Grubb won the Ladies division by two shots, while John Durm and Greg Rutman won the Men’s, also by two strokes. Our second 18 hole event was played on the East & North nines and the format was Two Best Balls of the Foursome. This was a mixed team competition and was won by Roger & Ellie Weiss along with Bill Thordike & Lydia Nelson.

Congratulations to all of our winners and a big thanks to everyone who participanted, we appreciate your support .
