World Golf Village
St. Augustine, Florida

It has been one of the coldest winters we’ve experienced in a long time and when we travelled to St. Augustine, FL to attend our event everyone was looking forward to a few days of warm sunny weather.  I am happy to report that we received just what we had hoped for! The “Golf Gods” treated us to four days of warm weather and ideal golf conditions on two championship courses, The Slammer & Squire and the King & Bear. All together we had 80 golfers & non-golfers on this trip comprised of our members as well as Sun and Fun Golf Association members and we received many positive comments, as everyone seemed to have a good time.

We stayed at the World Golf Village’s Renaissance Resort, located just a pitching wedge away from the World Golf Hall of Fame and first tee of the Slammer & Squire golf course. The newly renovated four star resort served us well, offering clean comfortable and modern rooms and a fantastic buffet breakfast each morning. During our free time participants enjoyed the World Golf Hall of Fame, IMAX Theater and 18-hole natural grass putting course.  Our cocktail receptions and banquets were held at the Slammer & Squire Clubhouse where the food and drink was plentiful and a good time was had by all.

The main focus of our trip was the golf and we played three separate 18-hole tournaments on the World Golf Village’s Slammer & Squire and King & Bear Courses. The courses were in fantastic condition and the staffs at both courses did a great job handling our group. Our first day featured a “One Best Ball of Four” team competition on the Slammer & Squire. The team of first time participants: Glen Murray, Joe Megonegal, Bill Young and veteran CSGA’er Maureen Worfolk carded a 59, winning a close competition by one stroke. Day two featured a “Two Best Ball of Four” team competition on the King & Bear where we had two Men’s flights and one flight for the Ladies. Janet Florip, Carol Megonegal, Ann Burke and Mary Hertenstein won the Ladies division with a 133. Gary Purdum, Larry Kelley, Bill Zell and Craig Herman won Men’s Flight ‘A’ with a 127. And the team of Seldon Patty, Roger Weiss, Ed Myers and Tom Kuhn won Men’s Flight ‘B’ shooting a scorching 125. Our final day of play was back at the Slammer & Squire where we played an Individual Modified Stableford. First time participants Jim & Faye Curry dominated this competition with Faye winning Ladies Flight ‘A’ with a 60 and Jim winning the Men’s Flight ‘A’ with a 57. Patty Kelly won Ladies Flight ‘B’ with a 56 and Steve Manz won Men’s Flight ‘B’ with a 55 and Rich Chickillo won the Men’s flight ‘C’ with a 58.

Congratulations to all those who competed. We look forward to returning to the World Golf Village possibly in 2012 and hope we have a turn out like the one we experianced this year.
