The Lodge at Sea Island
St. Simons Island, Georgia
SFGA recently returned from our event at the Lodge at Sea Island. It’s one of the finest golf resorts in the country and one that should be experienced if at all possible. The resort strives for the best of everything it offers and delivers like no other place I’ve ever stayed. The accommodations are spacious and beautifully appointed. The dining and cuisine was outstanding and the golf was terrific. I guess that is why the PGA signed a five year agreement to host a tour event with them last year. But I believe what makes the Lodge at Sea Island stand apart from most other resorts, is their attention to detail and their incredible personal service. From the moment you enter the gates you get the feeling that the entire staff is actually glad to have you as a guest. A butler greets you and takes you on a tour of the facility and to your room. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable. Nightly turndown service includes cold milk and warm cookies and each morning you can have the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and/or USA Today delivered to your room. We played two days of golf, one round on the Plantation Course and the other on the Seaside Course. The format for our first round was a “2 BB of 4” and we mixed up the teams so participants played with someone they had not played with before. The course was in excellent condition and the weather was ideal for golf, sunny and warm. The team of Dick Crouch, Howard Dwyer, Jayne James and Audrey Hirst shot the low round of the day with a 130. Our final round was on the scenic Seaside Course. The weather was windy and partly sunny and even though we had a few sprinkles everyone finished and enjoyed the picturesque layout. We played the same format of “2 BB of 4” and paired two couples per foursome. Congratulations go out to David & Lin Tidmarsh who teamed with Clive & Jayne James to win by eight shots with a 125. Both couples seemed to enjoy playing in the windy conditions and their first place finish was proof.
