Glade Springs Resort & Spa
Daniels, West Virginia
The S.F.G.A. just completed our event at the Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, West Virginia and it was a beautiful venue nestled in the Appalachian Mountains. This was the third and final event of the year where the Sun and Fun Golf Association and Carolina Seniors Golf Association members came together to share three fun-filled days of golf, meals, cocktail receptions and fellowship. The forecast was for thunder showers all three days and we were extremely fortunate to enjoy nice weather for the first two days of golf...
Glade Springs Resort features three 18 hole championship courses set amidst their gorgeous 4,100 acre property. We played the Stonehaven Course the first day and it was in great condition. Stonehaven is the # 3 ranked course in the state according to Golf Digest and it was absolutely beautiful! The course features dramatic elevation changes and picturesque mountain scenery. The team of Craig & Cheryl Herman and Seldon & Dee Patty shot a scorching 24 under in a “Two Best Ball of Four” format and won by 4 shots.
The next day we played the Cobb Course which is more of a classic design with rolling hills, eight lakes, 54 bunkers and large fast greens. The Cobb Course has played host to the U.S. Open qualifier, the West Virginia Open, and the NCAA National Championships. And last month they hosted the Monday qualifier for the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic. We played a modified Stableford with two person teams, ladies and men competed separately. Dee Patty and Karen Anderson won the ladies competition and John Clark and Ken Bradley won for the men. The final day was rained out, but we were happy to play two rounds in nice weather.
Surrounded by the beauty and history of Southern West Virginia's breathtaking mountains, the Glade Springs Resort is the ideal vantage point for West Virginia's wilderness. Whether golfing on one of their award-winning courses, burrowing underground to tour once-operational coal mines or white-water rafting down North America's oldest river, there is always something to do in and around this 4,100 acre estate.
A big thank you goes out to Glade Springs, the Carolina Seniors Golf Association, the Sun and Fun Golf Association and everyone who helped make this event such a success.
